Ante Post Betting

Postby Ianovich » Fri Jan 06, 2017 4:47 pm

Markets nowhere near as enticing as they were a few years back, very few bookies prepared to take on a punter (not sure the main players ever have in reality) but technology has certainly loaded the dice in the accountants favour...still a few ways to get a decent punt on but now needs very tight timing and an almost industrial scale organisation

Cheltenham betting is pretty dead these days, so many alternative engagements for horses you can easily do your money without getting the chance of a run..

Only done a few so far - decent sized bets on Moon Racer for the first at odds of 16s down to 12..does not have any sort of profile to win the race but very lightly raced for its age - risk is of course some hotpot comes out of nowhere in the next 3-4 weeks from Ireland or a big yard here - but I liked those odds at the time for a very classy horse.

I also backed Unowhatimeanharry at double figure odds earlier in the season, one reason and one alone - he looked like the only decent horse that was guaranteed to actually target the race and it was a race that was bound to cut up with Faugheen, Vroom Vroom Mag, Thistlecrack and Annie Power all quoted at short odds..I just took a punt that its possible none of those would be in the race and I could lay off my bets and have a bet for nothing..

As it stands I can lay-off both and still have a more than decent sporting bet running for me..

CHAMP didn't beat anything and Henderson states unlikely to run at Cheltenham, but as soon as I see a non runner no bet on the bumper I'll have a go on this one. You don't name a horse after Sir Anthony unless it's pretty likely to be top class and this horse was making ground hard held at Southwell. :thumb1:

Skybet first I've seen NRNB - not tempted by their odds.

Money refunded if your horse misses The Festival. Money Back as a Free Bet up to £25 if your horse runs in a different Festival race. Singles only.

not quite NRNB...(unless you staking 25 or less) ....my read of the small print

Bit disappointing if Moon Racer goes CH backed bits and pieces at 25s and 20s NRNB but even then not even close to potential gains from Supreme...
